Mole Check and Skin Cancer Screening
Most moles are harmless, but changes in their size, shape, or color can occasionally be an early sign of skin cancer. Dr Memon provides a comprehensive mole screening service designed to provide early detection and complete peace of mind.
The Gold Standard: Dermoscopy
During your consultation, Dr Memon doesn’t just look at your skin with the naked eye. He uses Dermoscopy—a specialized clinical technique using a high-powered handheld microscope.
- Deep Visualization: This allows Dr Memon to see deep into the architecture of the mole, identifying patterns invisible to the naked eye.
- Accuracy: Dermoscopy significantly increases the accuracy of diagnosis, helping to distinguish between benign moles and early-stage malignancies
What to Expect During Your Screening
- Full-Body Assessment: A systematic head-to-toe check of your skin to identify any atypical or “ugly duckling” lesions.
- High-Risk Patient Review: Specifically tailored for patients with a personal or family history of skin cancer, or those with a high number of moles.
- Clear Diagnosis: After the check, Dr Memon will clearly explain which moles are safe and which, if any, require monitoring or surgical removal.
When Should You Book a Mole Check?
You should arrange an appointment if you notice a new mole or any of the following changes (the ABCDE rule):
- Asymmetry: One half of the mole does not match the other.
- Border: The edges are ragged, notched, or blurred.
- Colour: The mole has a mix of different shades (brown, black, red, or white).
- Diameter: The mole is larger than 6mm (roughly the size of a pencil eraser).
- Evolving: The mole is changing in size, shape, or color, or has started to itch, crust, or bleed.
